It is vital that developing economies create strategies that increase economic benefits while preserving the environment. Kenan Institute Asia aims to learn from and build on Thailand's experience, both positive and negative, to help guide development in both Thailand and its neighbors.

K.I.Asia works with private sector and government partners to develop systematic approaches that ensure environmental protection in a variety of ways, including: advocating and facilitating the introduction of more environmentally-friendly technologies for cleaner energy production, educating business leaders, training municipal managers, and identifying sustainable development indicators. Since its inception in 1996, environmental programs have been a cornerstone of K.I.Asia activities with funding provided by USAID and Thai government agencies.

Services –Our environment and sustainable development services include technical assistance, policy advisory and partnership formation. The services are divided into 3 main areas as follows:

• Environmental Education – We work to incorporate environmental education into the curriculum of schools at the secondary and higher education levels through curriculum development, training of trainers, and pilot project-based programs. In addition, we also promote the development of youth leadership in the field of environment and energy.
  
• Sustainable Environmental Management - K.I.Asia highlights the importance of better management of waste water, municipal solid waste and air pollution. We assist in the improvement of water supply, waste treatment and air quality in the cities which leads to clean and green environment. We also focus on better urban management especially the implementation of sustainable development indicators, capacity building for local government officials, Provincial Administrative Organization, Tambon Administrative Organization and staff.
• Sustainable Energy Management - K.I.Asia works to promote and assist in sustainable energy management, particularly in the community-based renewable energy. Since energy management has become a key agenda for the country, we also make an effort to push forward public energy policy into action.
