KIAsia launches the Tsunami Recovery Action Initiative in response to the devastation left by the tsunami in southern Thailand and is awarded a three-year grant from the William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust and the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise.
The Merck Institute for Science Education and MSD (Thailand) provide a three-year grant to support a program to improve the teaching of science in schools in the tsunami-hit area of Phang-nga. The program, called Inquiry-based Science and Technology Education Program (IN-STEP) works closely with the Ministry of Education to encourage quality and innovation in science teaching.
KIAsia is included in the MOU on Economic Cooperation Framework between Thailand and the United States. American Corporations for Thailand, Phase II, is launched.
KIAsia is selected as manager of the Thailand portion of the U.S. government program “Accelerating Economic Recovery in Asia” and Mr. Anand Panyarachun is named chairman of the AERA Steering Committee.
American Corporations for Thailand is established under the co-chairmanship of Dr. Henry Kissinger and Mr. Anand Panyarachun with donation of $1.1 million to support Thai training institutions and programs for the unemployed.
